My perception is that Nick Gibb is also a really effective line of defence against some nonsense that the DFE are often confronted with, partly due to longevity and partly because he knew his brief.

Another misleading news story about 'exclusions'. There’s no excuse for this kind of sloppy journalism. It’s been pointed out repeatedly. Don’t they care about facts, or objective truth? Shocking recklessness that borders on activism. teachingbattleground.wordpress.com/2023/10/08/ano…

The multiplication test for 9 year olds means more children know their tables than ever before. The new more rigorous maths GCSE means better preparation for A level, now the most popular A level choice. 4/5

I am proud that over my 10 years as a minister standards in schools have risen. England is 4th in the world in reading as a result of the phonics reforms and we are rising internationally for maths and English. We have transformed the curriculum so that it is knowledge rich. 3/5

What went wrong with the Scottish education system?

Sobering reading, but it’s important to acknowledge a problem before fixing it. Or, in this case, rebooting the whole system. thetimes.co.uk/article/what-w…

One of the architects of the curriculum, Keir Bloomer, has said they should have emphasised knowledge more. 'Without knowledge there can be no skills.'

Totally agree.
