Aviation-trained staff and volunteers from the ACTRFS recently completed an FRNSW course in Helicopter Underwater Evacuation Techniques and Emergency Rescue Breathing.

It was a great example of interagency operability training – well done to everyone involved!

The ACT Rural Fire Service is on the lookout for new volunteers!

Successful candidates will be trained to respond to bush and grass fires in the Territory – they'll also learn to work with other emergency services to provide support when needed.

Conditions are currently favourable for hazard reduction burns to be done around the ACT, and in surrounding NSW, but the detailed planning and preparation behind each prescribed burn can take months, or even years.

Hazard reduction burns continue in the Snowy Valleys and Snowy Monaro areas. Resulting smoke may be experienced in the Canberra, Queanbeyan, Jindabyne and Cooma areas, and is likely to settle overnight in low lying areas.
