That's to say, if you shout “Kill the Jews!” at Harvard University, it appears to be permitted free speech. You actually have to kill Jews for it to amount to bullying and harassment (which others might call murder or a crime against humanity). Jewish students at Harvard must be appalled.

.Rep. Elise Stefanik: “Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate Harvard University's rules of bullying and harassment?”
Claudine Gay: “It can be, depending on the context.. antisemitic rhetoric, when it crosses into conduct, amounts to bullying, harassment..”
So antisemitic speech is fine.

Not what she said to Elise Stefanik. She was asked: “Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate Harvard University's rules of bullying and harassment?”
She responded that it “depends on the context” (echoing presidents of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) & Penn).
Rep. Elise Stefanik is right to call for her resignation.

Extraordinary how many MPs are referencing Margaret Thatcher in today's – 33 years after she left office, and a decade after her death. I can hear her now: “Ah, still talking about me..”

Undoubtedly true.
Mrs Thatcher was acutely aware of what some of her colleagues said about her behind her back, and what they called her: ‘the Leaderene’, ‘that bloody woman’, ‘bitch’, ‘witch’, ‘grocer's daughter’. Imagine a WhatsApp group with Michael Heseltine and other ‘Wets’.

I have to post this incredible (literally) exchange again, if only to thank Rep. Elise Stefanik for resolutely exposing the unethical barrenness of the moral codes which underlie these prestigious institutions of higher education.

MIT, Penn, Harvard..
“Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate [your] rules of bullying or harassment?”
“If the speech turns into conduct, it can be harassment.”
I am aghast at these answers. Jaw-dropping. Absolutely gobsmacked.

I know a lot of people are going to be watching this for the entertainment, but I do hope Boris Johnson might kick this into serving a useful purpose, by (for example) questioning the costs and morality of lockdown, and the arbitrary infringement of liberties.

“nobody in higher education even whispers concern”
A few have.
Ever since Oxford voted not to bestow an honorary doctorate on Mrs Thatcher – their first alumna to become PM (having previously granted one to every alumnus PM) – I've been rather cynical about the merit and process.

Think about this for a moment.
£1.9 MILLION to animal charities.
What a man.
Ricky Gervais deserves a knighthood for services to charity and animal compassion (not to mention entertainment).

I was honoured to meet His Holiness the Pope (of Alexandria) there in 2017. He gave me this icon, which hangs in a place of honour. Always good to see Archbishop Angaelos, Archbishop of London, who labours tirelessly for the Kingdom and in support of the @ChurchofEngland.🙏

My article for the Daily Telegraph on the 2022 PISA results announced this morning. England rises from 17th place to 11th place in maths, out of 81 countries. telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/0…

I do hope some university departments of education will reflect on how well England has done, and how poorly Scotland and Wales have done relative to England, and consider (if not research) possible reasons for this (if not appreciation of Nick Gibb).
I'm not hopeful any will.

I’m proud of the education my local comprehensive school gave me: Scotland’s education system at the time was the envy of many other countries.

The Scottish Government’s abject failure is becoming ever more obvious.

It’s time for change.

Because they tend to pay a terrible price when they do, including personal abuse, defamatory smears, Twitter pile-ons, and general ostracisation.
There are some notable brave ones, of course, but it isn't for every woman at all.

What I find a little odd about Starmer's (faint) appreciation of Mrs Thatcher is that he's persuaded that it will somehow ‘woo’ her supporters. Does he really think Thatcherites are so shallow and undiscerning as to be duped by his hollow sophistry?

At its best, our campus is a place where people of different backgrounds, ethnicities & religions live, learn & build friendships together.

That's more important than ever today, so there can be no excuse for these antisemitic incidents. We must do better
