Doctors are furious.

A record breaking turn out of 77.49% and a 98% yes mandate smashing the anti-trade union legislation that demands POSTAL votes for a significant size of the workforce who rotates on an at least an annual basis is undeniable.

🚨 It's crazy that the NHS has told 350 doctors training in anaesthesia that the NHS has no job for them after 3 years training.

At the same time we have massive shortages of, you guessed it, anaesthetists. These self-defeating bottlenecks defy logic. Statement from Royal College of Anaesthetists

For some groups in particular, the numbers are eye-watering.

Specialty registrars — junior doctors about 5-10 years into their professional career — would be earning *£20,000* more per year today if pay had kept up with inflation.

Prof Colin R Melville @gmc I recently underwent a 20 month GMC investigation into my practice having been referred by a family member. I had already been referred to the local SI panel, coroner and government ombudsman who closed immediately

So disheartening to see this from a consultant in the department I’m currently training in. Thankfully all our other consultants (those actively involved in acute care for our patients, unlike Dr Johnson) have been so supportive of our decision and right to strike.

Because of passport & visa privilege, global health meetings are becoming two-tiered:

Global North participants: in person, speaking, asking questions, socializing & networking

Global South: on Zoom, mostly off-camera, muted, asking questions via chat, or watching recordings

Lots of talk at the RCPCH conference about social determinants of health whilst staff are striking for a below inflation pay offer. The college needs to put its money where it’s mouth is. Support striking staff ✊ Unite at RCPCH RCPCH Camilla Kingdon
