When you fly a drone over or near a wildfire, you're breaking the law. Flying a drone near a wildfire endangers firefighting personnel and may cause firefighting operations to stop. Please give our firefighters space to do their jobs safely.

Wildfire MWF012, located approximately 4.5 km east of Saprae Creek Estates in the Fort McMurray forest area is now classified as being held. The evacuation alert has been lifted. Find more information on MWF012 here: srd.web.alberta.ca/fort-mcmurray-….

At this time of year, dry and dead grass is extremely flammable. Use caution if you’re having a campfire and always extinguish it when you are done. Check albertafirebans.ca before heading out to see if a fire restriction is in place.

UPDATE: Wildfire EWF015 is now classified as being held. Being held means that given current weather conditions and resources, the wildfire is not anticipated to grow past expected boundaries.

Getting ready for the wildfire season involves a lot of training for our firefighters and staff, such as developing chainsaw skills. Chainsaws are used in many situations, including cutting down trees to create a landing pad for helicopters.

As snow melts, dry grass and vegetation is exposed. This is extremely flammable fuel for a wildfire. We're doing hazard reduction burns to safely remove the fuel around communities and lessen the potential impact of a wildfire. Smoke may be visible while this work takes place.
