Keep seeing this argument, amd obviously there's a lot of truth to it. But it seems to me to dowwnplay the importance of EU reforms in the 90s (Thatcher led, if I'm not mistaken) and the huge amounts of American FDI that started pouring into ireland shortly thereafter.

Good thread here but don't think it's in the power of the Irish state to tell Irish banks what to do. That's Frankfurt's job. And, as i think Patrick Honohan noted somewhere, that's been the case since Maastricht
