Joe makes a good point. More than ever now, I see journalists not bothering to check things, not having the skills required to check things or knowingly disseminating untruths as that’s what their owners want. Our democracy is as a result dying of ignorance.

NEW: Angela Rayner remains insistent she has done nothing wrong.

In a statement issued this evening she says she would stand down if she had done anything criminal.

She accuses the Conservatives of political games and only reporting her to police for electoral gain.
