Gave an in-depth interview to the American Bar Association Senior Lawyers Division’s “Experience Magazine,” which published a special issue on the regulation of war.

The interview summarizes core features of my scholarship on peacetime & wartime espionage & its regulation under int’l law.

Arrived in Tallinn for Marten Zwanenburg & Sebastian Cymutta's 'Conference on the Law Applicable to the Use of Biometrics by Armed Forces' (NATO CCDCOE & Amsterdam Center for International Law).

Digital rights protection in war is a huge part of my research agenda & I'm so excited for these sessions to start.

Had a great time discussing some really terrific nat'l sec law works-in-progress, particularly Alex Sinha's upcoming book chapter on governmental speech acts, nat'l sec proclamations, & international law.

Thanks Amy C. Gaudion for your leadership of AALS nat'l sec Section!

Just finished another trip to Newport. This is my 3rd year teaching for the Department of Defense 🇺🇸 Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

Great opportunity to discuss civilian risk mitigation, digital rights protection, military AI, & intelligence regulation with military lawyers from all over the world!

This paper offers a deep dive into the foundational history of the prohibition of annexation at a critical time when the principle seems to be in
decline.

Those who attended the ASIL midyear know the room was packed when Monica Hakimi Ingrid Brunk first presented the work!

Sounds like a great space in which to investigate the impacts of the Oxford Process/Statements on International Law Protections in Cyberspace.

All I could think about when reading this Call. Just saying: Duncan Hollis Dapo Akande Talita Dias Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law & Armed Conflict

A terrific post by Christopher Elliott on Opinio Juris trying to make sense of the discourse around Israel's AI use in Gaza, including a recent (controversial?) post by Tal Mimran.

I agree with most of Chris's findings, particularly his careful analysis of operational processes!

Honored to be among this incredible group of thinkers and practitioners, many of whom are dear & longtime friends. Excited to work collaboratively to organize one of the biggest & most influential international law events of the year: ABILA's International Law Weekend!

For a 2nd year in a row IUMaurerLaw is the co-sponsor of The Jessup international rounds & the official organizer of the Breakfast Panel Discussion with the Problem Authors.

Had so much fun moderating this panel with my dear friends Jeff Brooks & Dagmar Butte. Video in link.

It's a day in the office. You're struggling to meet deadlines, impostor syndrome kicks in, & you're doomscrolling the news. Then you get an email from a student who passed the bar & associates your instruction with her success. You're immediately reminded why you love your job!

What a detailed & helpful post by Joana Pacheco. One of the topics of The Jessup next year is 'the invocation of immunity for government officials accused of grave violations of human rights.'

I predict thousands of students will soon be learning from & citing this post!
