Thanks to EL Gazette (English Language Gazette) for reminding GOV.UK & British Council of their responsibilities to the abandoned Afghan BC teachers. Some of our teachers are still in hiding in Afghanistan or stuck in hotels in Pakistan.

Great to see another of the #AtRiskTeachers safely relocated to the UK, after over 2 years hiding from the Taliban in Afghanistan & then waiting in hotels in Pakistan. Good to see you have have the Library Said.
One thing Afghanistan needs a lot more of - educational opportunities for women. In the pic. a British Council teacher instructs her students. BC teachers did great work enabling Afghan #WomenAndGirls , but when the Taliban took power we left them behind. Let's get them to safety.
Afghan British Council teachers were immensely brave to teach English & 'UK-values' in the strict Taliban state of Kandahar (pictured). While some have now been relocated to the UK, approx 20+ are still in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25+ still waiting in Pakistan.
Great to see British Council is keen to support displaced teachers from various countries... no mention of Afghan teachers though!
What support will BC provide for Afghan teachers a) arriving in the UK b) stuck in Pakistan c) hiding in Afghansitan?

Here's the British Council pledge for supporting displaced teachers. It refers to 'well-being needs, recognising & addressing trauma...'
Over 100 Afghan BC teachers were wrongly left behind when the Taliban took power. Many are still stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰 - they need support from BC.
Great to see #BritishCouncil pledging to 'help refugees use the power of language learning'... but what about all the abandoned #AtRiskTeachers stuck in Afghanistan & Pakistan - How does British Council plan to support them? Kate Ewart-Biggs Joseph Field

Afghan British Council teachers enabled learners all across Afghanistan. Sadly, when the Taliban took power we left our teachers behind. Over 2 years later, 20+ remain in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25 stuck in hotels in Pakistan. Rishi Sunak please fix. #AtRiskTeachers
A year since the BBC programme 'Abandoned in Afghanistan' was broadcast, the message is still very poignant, as many Afghan British Council teachers remain stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. A very worthwhile listen Rishi Sunak

'Aref' was a teacher on the #BritishCouncil 's 'Active Citizens' programme in Afghanistan - a job which put him at great risk. Sadly, when the Taliban took power we left our teachers behind. Over 2 years later, he's still waiting to get to safety. Rishi Sunak please fix.
'Ali' was a teacher on the British Council's 'English for Afghans' programme. He had to teach modules on 'UK-values', which put him at great risk. When the Taliban took power he had to go into hiding. Over 2 years later he is finally safe in 🇬🇧. Welcome Ali. #AtRiskTeachers #EDI
While some British Council teachers have at last been relocated to 🇬🇧, many more remain stuck in hiding in Afghanistan or in hotels in Pakistan. They've been waiting for well over 2 years now. GOV.UK needs to finish the job & get the teachers to safety Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office #AtRiskTeachers
Sayed is very relieved to have finally reached the UK, after a 2 year struggle to get to safety. He taught English & UK values for the British Council in Afghanistan, & has suffered greatly since the Taliban took power. At last he is safe in the UK. Rishi Sunak #AtRiskTeachers
While its great to hear that some Afghan British Council teachers are now safely in 🇬🇧, others remain in hiding in 🇦🇫, or stuck in hotels in 🇵🇰. 'Shabana' has been hiding with her 3 children for well over 2 years now. It's time to get her to safety. Rishi Sunak #AtRiskTeachers
Free from fear! After over 2 years stuck in hiding in Afghanistan, or waiting in a hotel in Pakistan, 'Ali' is at last safe in the UK, & able to get on with the rest of his life. It's been a long road to safety for the former British Council teacher. #AtRiskTeachers
Former British Council teacher 'Ali' spent over 2 years waiting to be relocated after the Taliban took control of 🇦🇫. 2 weeks ago he arrived in 🇬🇧, and went straight to the local library to learn. He is a strong believer in the value of education. Rishi Sunak #AtRiskTeachers
Great news for the Afghan British Council teachers relocated to 🇬🇧 on GOV.UK flights during December. They did great work for us across Afghanistan & have waited over 2 years to get to safety. Many of their colleagues remain stuck in hiding in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office #AtRiskTeachers
