19 January 1891 | Twin Czech Jewish brothers, František and Oskar Stránský, were born in Prague.
Both were deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto. Oskar on 26 October 1942, František on 6 September 1943.
None of them survived.
19 January 1940 | A Hungarian Jewish girl, Sarolta Grünwald (pictured left), was born in Csongrad.
In June 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber. She was 4 years old. Her two years older brother Sandor was killed with her.
19 January 1937 | A German Sinti boy, Friedrich Reinhardt, was born.
In #Zigeunerlager (Gypsy camp) in #Auschwitz II-Birkenau from 9 March 1943.

19 January 1899 | A Pole, Stanisław Nowak, was born in Stobnica. A miller.

In 2023, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation donated a record sum of PLN 27.5 million for conservation works at the Auschwitz Memorial.
The total support provided by the Foundation to date has reached PLN 126 million.

19 January 1887 | A Polish Jew, Izrael Suchecki, was born in Małogoszcz.
In #Auschwitz from 17 July 1942.

19 January 1935 | A French Jewish boy, Gilbert Gluck, was born in Paris.
On 23 August 1942 he arrived at #Auschwitz in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy. He was murdered in a gas chamber after selection.
17-21 January 1945 | SS led some 56,000 prisoners out of the camps and sub-camps of #Auschwitz . Over 9,000 people perished in Death Marches.
Representatives of Auschwitz Memorial paid tribute to the Victims at memorials along the evacuation routes to Gliwice and Wodzisław Śląski.
19 January 1924 | A Jew Anshel Grunberger was born in Gorond. During the war he lived in Munkacs (Mukacevo).
In 1944 he was deported to #Auschwitz . He did not survive.

19 January 1925 | A Norwegian Jew, Oskar Schermann, was born in Oslo.
In November 1942 he was deported to #Auschwitz . He perished in the camp in March 1943.
18 January 1916 | Dutch Jewish woman, Helena Waterman-de Jong, was born in Amsterdam.
She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Westerbork in August 1942. She did not survive.
18 January 1913 | Czech Jewish woman, Alžběta Ardová, was born in Prague.
She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto on 23 October 1944. She did not survive.
18 January 1943 | Two transports of Jews deported from Malines / Mechelen arrived at #Auschwitz - 1,555 people. After selection, 387 men & 81 women were registered. The remaining 1,087 people were murdered in gas chambers.
Among them was Frieda Jungst. She was five years old.
18 January 1945 | 9 days before the liberation, the last prisoner was registered in the #Auschwitz camp: Engelbert Marketsch (b. 1918 in Bleiberg), a land surveyor transferred from KL Mauthausen, received no. 202499. His later fate is unknown.
