So the Republican plan is more than $4 trillion in tax cuts plus more than $4 trillion in defense increases.

It's the Bush era all over again.

Sen Wicker called for raising defense funding to 5% of GDP, with a down payment of $55 billion this year.

How much would that cost over a decade?

$4.8 trillion if he reaches 5% over 10 years.
$6.6 trillion if he reaches 5% over 4 years.

That's bigger than the Trump tax cuts.

Rick Scott was CEO of Columbia/HCA when it committed Medicare and Medicaid fraud, leading to (at the time) the largest health care fraud settlement in US history.

This past year, House Republicans simply gave up on 5 of 12 bills:
-Ag
-CJS
-FSGG
-THUD
-Labor-H

No surprise they’ve all been relegated to near the end this year.

“what a beautiful tree”

House Approps Ds are saying that, last year, NDD got $778.409 bn instead of the $772.651 bn originally agreed to.

That additional $5.758 bn was bipartisan & offset.

In keeping w/ the agreement to grow FY2024 levels by 1%, the FY2025 NDD level should be no less than $786.193 bn.

In terms of important norms, the growth of governors and presidents leveraging government power to punish enemies and reward allies - such as by pardoning people who murder your political enemies - is far more worrisome than how presidential debates happen.

The politicians and organizations that talked about a “dramatic” increase in discretionary appropriations the last few years were lying to you.

After adjusting for inflation and population growth, base NDD* fell every year of the Biden admin, even before the FRA passed.

Under the original deal negotiated last year, both non-defense and defense will fall after adjusting for inflation.

Last year, House Republicans gave up on 5 out of their 12 appropriations bills. Curious to see how far they make it this year.
