Springtime at our Lava Pit Crater looks a little different.

The crater, part of our Diamond Craters Outstanding Natural Area, may not be filled with wildflowers. But if you're looking for volcano cored bombs and ancient lava, then spring is an excellent time to visit!

Did you know that adult barnacles build their own shells?

These amazing crustaceans do so by secreting 6-8 calcium plates that completely envelop them. Check out this extra large version, which was found by our rangers at Cobble Beach!

We're calling this one, 'All four seasons in a day.'

Taken last spring, this is the beautiful morning view from Lookout Mountain Road in Oregon. Along with four seasons, four distinct vegetation zones can be seen along the road to Big Lookout Mountain.

Indian celery, or celery wane kama, is widespread in the PNW. It's eaten fresh or in soups, and is just one of the plants safe for consumption on public lands (like the bitterroot and desert parsley pictured here)!
