A morning ringing at Sevenhampton today saw us catch 3 Fieldfare, a seasons best 36 Redwing and a surprise Blackcap. Half the site is still flooded and there's more rain on the way

A weather shortened session this morning. We were lucky to be able to get out at all but the weather was better than the forecast.

Spectacular day in the Kennet Valley ringing 141 birds of 21 species. The outstanding highlight was ringing 9 Crossbills, our first since 2003!

After thinking that Willow Tit has been extinct in Wiltshire for 2 years we ringed one yesterday! Sadly, extinction is still certain, but they are trying to persist. 5 Marsh Tits was also great. Tony Juniper funding is needed for serious research to find the cause of the decline.

On Saturday night I led a night safari for junior members of Wiltshire Ornithological Society. I came away utterly inspired by the enthusiasm of the children. We ringed Grey Partridge, Fieldfare & 2 Skylarks. Look at the joy on the lads face! He loved ageing/sexing the Fieldfare using a guide book

Early morning net set at Sevenhampton paid off today with a rather nice adult Woodcock, only the 4th I've mist-netted here. Among the usual Redwing's was our 3rd Fieldfare of the winter season. Left for work with my Dad still there trying for more Redpoll's

Nice variety at Sevenhampton today before the un-forecast rainstarted. A Fieldfare was in with the 9 Redwing caught at dawn. An adult Blackcap that could just in or just leaving. Also a Marsh Tit, Magpie & an unusual catch of Starling for the site

I am always happy for the Wilts Rural Crime team to stop and ask me what I am doing in a farm field in Wiltshire. The team tonight got to see a stunning Short-eared Owl that I had just ringed.

Super night monitoring birds on a farm by the River Thames. I ringed my first Jack Snipe of the Autumn, along with a Woodcock and 2 Common Snipe. Also, counted an amazing 200 Skylarks - the highest count in Wiltshire this year.

I ringed these Barn Owls yesterday. It is the second latest brood I have ever ringed. The Gamekeeper found them in the strawstack last month. He has given them a little help by feeding them slivers of meat in wet weather. They are in superb condition and will fledge any day now.

With most of my Sevenhampton site underwater still it was limited nets today. Brilliant morning with 21 Redwing, & the 1st 2 Fieldfare of the Autumn. Looks like it will be a good winter for Lesser Redpoll's locally with 18 ringed today & more passing over
