Jomi told me that in Grade 10 she wrote a poem, “Just A Young Black Girl”.
Fast forward 2 years, now recent high school graduate, Jomi Oyediran, published her poetry book, “Blooming – My Way to Becoming”.

Welcome back to #KWawesome Filomena Tassi! Today the FedDev Ontario Minister came to Region of Waterloo to connect with academics, entrepreneurs, and citizens as the #GoC strives to support local economies & highlight the people, potential, and possibilities in the @CityWaterloo.

While we've come a long way in 🇨🇦, we know that we still have more to do, including combatting racism and discrimination in all its forms. It will take every single one of us to build a better and consciously more inclusive Canada for all.

Saddened to hear of the attack that took place yesterday University of Waterloo, but not surprised. Hate exists in our communities and it must be condemned in all forms. Violence should have no place in 🇨🇦. We all have a role to play.

Our hearts go out to those injured and all impacted.

I encourage all members of the #UWaterloo community to make use of the various resources and supports available to them.

Today at 3:15pm, our campus community will gather in the Arts Quad in recognition of the shocking attack and trauma we endured yesterday.

The lives of three generations of the Afzaal family were taken in an appalling and cowardly terrorist attack two years ago. Today, we remember #OurLondonFamily – Talat, Salman, Madiha, and Yumna – and we stand with Fayez. We must, and we will, keep working to combat Islamophobia.
