#OTD in 1906, Martín Dihigo was born in Matanzas, Cuba. Hall of Famer Johnny Mize claimed that he “was the only guy I ever saw, who could play all nine positions, manage, run and switch-hit.” Here’s my painting of him with Habana in early 1923.

His name is misspelled here but Wildfire Schulte is such a great, cheap pre-war player to collect. He led the league in home runs twice, won the 1912 Most Valuable Player award, and helped the Cubs win two World Series championships -- yet he is often priced as a common in sets.
