In 2021, over 3,500 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver (NHTSA.gov). OR law generally prohibits drivers from holding a mobile electronic device while driving. This evening, BPD Traffic Officers will be out looking for these dangerous drivers.

In 1.5 hours, 3 traffic officers cited 15 drivers for speeding on Highway 26 near Murray. Each of these drivers was going more than 20 MPH over the speed limit.

Make sure the bright orange globe in sky (is that the sun????) doesn’t block the view of your speedometer. Speeding significantly increases the chances of serious injury, or death, in a crash. Several of our Traffic Officers will be out today working speed enforcement.
