🧵On 24 April 2013, the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh killed 1,138 people.
This was a man-made tragedy, and while things have changed since, root causes have not all been addressed.

Unless blocked, Sunak is going to send c.100 terrified refugees 4,000 miles away in a symbolic gesture that will neither 'stop the boats' nor save him electorally. The main result will be to cause intense pain to a group of people who have already suffered plenty.

Afghans have consistently been among the top nationalities crossing the Channel in small boats.
