I love all of these replies. The simple answer?
'Of man's first disobedience, and the fruit
Of that forbidden tree, whose mortal taste
Brought death into the world, and all our woe'

I can lecture for a full class on those lines. With two more sessions of discussion.

This is nuts. I actually disagree with you (hi Leslie Jamison !) about the right to protest in this fashion. But I totally agree that the university here has abdicated its responsibility to justify its actions in an educational context. This is no different than a flash flood alert.

As usual, UChicago really gets this right. I'm curious to see if the center holds, and inspired by the way a great university is attempting to be true to its principles at a time when all sides seem to be pushing against them.

A good article by one of our The Writing University @ UIOWA alum, on an issue/dynamic that is incredibly concerning in the creative arts right now.

I just talked to my mom, who lurks on Twitter, and who is a very astute observer: 'It seems like you're already at University of Tulsa but you are also University of Iowa. Like you are working two jobs and living in two places.'

Moms. They are good at what they do!

It's weird to me how many people on here don't seem to understand (or pretend not to understand) the difference between free speech and civil disobedience. Or to understand that civil disobedience does have consequences.

It's always a good time to read my mentor John Carey's 'Down with Dons,' remarkably incisive nearly 50 years after its first publication. johncarey.org/essays/downwit…
