Today, we celebrate 45 Years of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), whose framework enables the continued growth and strengthening of the U.S.-Taiwan partnership.

In Taiwan, I enjoyed conversations w/ senior leaders, LY leadership & members & scholars on the growing US-Taiwan partnership, and exploring the Palace Museum & Yangmingshan. I also saw firsthand Taiwan’s resilience after the recent earthquake & extended the US’ deep condolences.

A reflection of our democracies, the U.S.-Taiwan partnership is so powerful because it transcends party lines. It was great to meet with LY leaders and the LY USA Caucus on my trip to discuss U.S. bipartisan support for Taiwan and U.S.-Taiwan cooperation.

Extending our deepest condolences to everyone on Taiwan who was affected by the devastating earthquake, especially to those who have lost their lives, been injured or remain missing. The U.S. stands ready to assist as Taiwan recovers and rebuilds over the coming months.
