Hyenas play a vital role of cleaning up the ecosystem! They're skilled hunters, helping maintain balance in herbivore populations. Through the predator-proof boma project, Born Free aims to safeguard their populations, by reducing retaliatory incidents.

To bolster community awareness, amplify coexistence and strengthen engagement of communities neighbouring Meru National Park, Born Free organized a football tournament, through our 'Kick to Conserve' project where the teams were awarded Born Free-branded kits and trophies.

At Born Free, we support schools to foster harmony between humans, wildlife and the Earth. We partnered with Kanjoo Secondary, providing tree seeds and potting tubes to promote sustainable tree cover management. Every tree planted matters. #InternationalMotherEarthDay 🌍🌳

Born Free Foundation participated in the Kenya Wildlife Service Strategic Plan Development meeting in Meru County, home to Meru National Park, which is renowned for its diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes. We anticipate harmonizing our Kenya strategy with KWS's to conserve wildife.

Tana is one of the precious rhinos in Meru Rhino Sanctuary. She is a devoted mother and has given birth to six calves!

Lone buffaloes result from straying from the herd to lead solitary lives. They forfeit the protection of the herd, increasing their vulnerability to predation. They remain vigilant and ready to defend themselves, making them more dangerous to encounter than a herd.

Did you know?

While hippos spend a lot of time in the water, they actually can't swim, instead they walk under water. Adult hippos can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes.

Last year, we experienced births of an incredible 20 cubs across 4 prides. Our field teams cover thousands of kilometres by vehicle in search of lions recording the sightings. Through our Lion ID database, we have identified 93 lions in Meru National Park. ow.ly/lgkt50QXEij
