If you’re serving guacamole this Super Bowl Sunday, you’re likely contributing to an environmental disaster in Mexico. But it doesn’t have to be this way says The Washington Post - citing letter from US Senators and Climate Rights International. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…
US-based companies importing avocados from Mexico are turning a blind eye to deforestation, water theft and violence. 🧵1/8 What issue is scandalously omitted from UN Human Rights compliation of @UN documents for #China govt’s Jan 2024 #UPR ? Its own allegation of possible #crimesagainsthumanity targeting #Uyghurs and others. documents-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/…
Very excited that Climate Rights International International’s first report is out today.
Check out the report and video below.
And the New York Times covered it in this long piece. nytimes.com/2023/11/28/us/…
Important piece by Tony La Viña on the joint letter with Climate Rights International sent to Bongbong Marcos on the risk to #indigenous communities and climate change from the #KaliwaDam . rappler.com/voices/thought… via Rappler

We must commit to #climateequity
Wealthy countries must greatly increase their adaptation funding so basic rights of those who did not cause the #climatecrisis are respected.
And at #COP28 they must commit to pay for #loss &damage theguardian.com/environment/20…
Very sad to see Joko Widodo leaving such a disastrous climate legacy. A green petrochemical refinery? That is an oxymoron. Carbon capture is unproven and just a way for @Exxon to keep pumping oil. Exxon caused the climate crisis but even now appears intent on destroying the planet.
“DOE says it is committed to promoting #EnvironmentalJustice in all its activities. And yet, the agency continues to grant export authorizations to methane gas export terminals, explosive carbon bombs, in low-income communities and communities of color”
This is why young Californians under the age of 18 are taking action & filing a new youth-led climate lawsuit ✊If you or someone you know in CA is interested in joining or learning more about this case, visit: bit.ly/CAClimateYouth #YouthvGov
The #TriplePlanetaryCrisis is our generation's defining threat. Fortunately, we have a roadmap to a #SustainableFuture : Human rights.
My call is clear:
-Phase out Fossil Fuels
-Make polluters pay for environmental harms
-Say no to plastic pollution
-Protect biodiversity
#ActNow
Great that Gavin Newsom is in China to discuss the #ClimateEmergency . But silence on rights should not be an option. How can he not raise forced labor in Xinjiang or free speech for environmental defenders?
My new oped for Climate Rights International International.
