This is the Belgian Prime Minister. Yet Labour MPs found the curtailing of free speech highly amusing and we’re giggling like schoolchildren in parliament today.

What happened at the Claridge today is unacceptable. Municipal autonomy is a cornerstone of our democracy but can never overrule the Belgian constitution guaranteeing the freedom of speech and peaceful assembly since 1830. Banning political meetings is unconstitutional.Full stop.

The ECHR was set up by the Brits to stop state overreach. To limit excesses of state power.

Instead today it does the opposite.

It pushes the state into wielding power as in Switzerland, while doing nothing to ward off petulant little wannabe dictators like this Brussels Mayor.

The irony of calling others FAR RIGHT while laughing about shutting down political meetings.

This is chilling.

The mayor has banned conservatives who articulate the view of millions of people from meeting because he doesn’t like their opinions.

Meanwhile the Labour Party laugh at these Putin-esque tactics.

Anyone who believes in freedom of speech should be concerned.

The lefts response to the the mayor of Brussels sending in police to shut down free speech and political debate is a reminder of how dangerous the left is and why the left should not be given political power. Free speech is being seriously eroded across the west.
