Teamwork makes the dream work! Multiple times a year, we drain & clean the sea lion pool on Astor Court. This work is done by hand & can take 5-6 hours to get the pool ready for our animals.

On warm days, our giraffes can be seen at African Plains. Giraffes have a unique way of moving called pacing, where the front and back legs on one side move forward together, then the other two legs on the other side move together. Spring Break is a perfect time to see them!

Animal Chronicles: A New Exhibit at The 125-Year Old BRONX ZOO. It features 68 life-sized and larger-than-life eco-sculptures made of sustainable materials to showcase the Bronx Zoo’s success stories in saving species over the past 125 years.

Black and rufous giant elephant shrews are not true shrews, but are more closely related to elephants, aardvarks, and tenrecs. They are one of the fastest small mammals, reaching speeds up to 17mph. See if you can catch a glimpse of them next time you visit the Mouse House!

Damaraland mole rats dig impressive underground tunnels using their prominent lower incisors and forefeet. They spend almost their entire lives underground. You can visit our colony of mole rats in the Mouse House.

Swing by the Aquatic Bird House this month to see scarlet ibis. Their saturated scarlet-colored plumage comes from the carotenes found in the foods they eat, which include a variety of crustaceans, mollusks, and insects.
