The Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Awards are competitively awarded and support excellence in scholarly work by providing funding for selected faculty research projects deemed to be of exceptional merit.

The Research Seed Awards are competitively awarded and help faculty more successfully advance competitive research proposals by supporting the generation of preliminary data, pursuing new directions or collaborations in research, and other endeavors.

Our 2024 Research Achievement Award recipients are making a significant impact in the world by advancing knowledge through their achievements, discoveries, and contributions.

Last week, the Office of the Vice President for Research hosted the 2024 Celebration of Research.

The annual event, held in Sayles Hall, brings together the winners of the Research Achievement, Seed, and Salomon awards to celebrate exceptional and transformative research.

Thomas Serre, Ph.D. is a Mid-Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Serre is widely recognized as a world leader in AI, computational neuroscience, and computer vision.

Corey E. Ventetuolo, M.D., M.S. is a Mid-Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Ventetuolo is a practicing pulmonary/critical care physician at Rhode Island Hospital (Brown Medicine Pulmonary Vascular Disease).

Caroline J. Klivans, Ph.D. is a Mid-Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Klivans specializes in algebraic, geometric, and topological combinatorics.

Ellie Pavlick, Ph.D. is an Early Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Pavlick researches Natural Language Processing, the subfield of AI that aims to build systems capable of communicating with humans through speech and text.

Morganne A. Kraines, Ph.D. is an Early Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Her work focuses on affective-cognitive factors that act as mechanisms and predictors of change in mood disorders and health behaviors.

Felipe Martinez-Pinzon, Ph.D. is a Mid-Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

Martínez-Pinzón specializes in research on Latin American literary and cultural studies, particularly during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Maricruz Rivera-Hernandez, Ph.D. is an Early Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

She is a gerontologist and health services researcher dedicated to improving health and health care for
vulnerable older adults.

Kevin Escudero, Ph.D. is an Early Career Research Achievement Award recipient.

An assistant professor of American studies, he specializes in the comparative study of race/ethnicity and Indigeneity, immigration, social movements, and law.
