I can't help but think of the parallels between Laquan McDonald and Dexter Reed. I examined the Johnson administration's response so far and explored how it is focusing its efforts toward healing, accountability, transparency, and justice. The TRiiBE

“I appreciate the mayor’s quick response & him being ahead of this. I haven’t seen no other mayor, in my lifetime, respond this way,” said Alonzo Waheed.

After Mayor Brandon Johnson’s press conference with COPA and State’s Attorney Foxx about Dexter Reed, he did direct engagement with community members on the West Side—a different approach than previous administrations.

CALL KIM FOXX and demand the charges are dropped against Julius Reed, brother of Dexter Reed, who was executed by over 96 shots by five CPD officers in the 11th district. Julius was brutalized and arrested at a press conference demanding justice for Dexter Reed.

My grandma grew up in Lakeview and when I moved to Logan Square told me she used to take a Diversey streetcar to the Goldblatts at Diversey/Kimball/Milwaukee [for now, the Gap Outlet]

Let's do BRT asap to bring speedy, reliable public transit service to more residents! My two cents:
BRT (w/dedicated lane) >rail w/o rights of way (streetcars in mixed traffic), but gosh streetcars are nostalgic...

The cops who shot at Dexter Reed 96 times were being investigated for another traffic stop, police watchdog says.

They also question how officers saw a seatbelt violation through Reed’s tinted windows. buff.ly/3VOnSKD

It turns out COPA shares the exact same concern about the cops' ability to even see Dexter Reed's seatbelt from behind the car with tinted windows. 'Seat belt violation' is basically what cops came up with after it all went to hell & they had to give COPA a reason for the stop.

We need to put an end to pretextual traffic stops. We need a non police model to manage traffic issues. We need fully funded and implemented Treatment Not Trauma and Peace Book models. We need to care for and protect people’s lives.

UPDATE: In a letter to Chicago's top cop, the city's top police oversight official raised alarms about the 'proportionality' of force during the shootout with Dexter Reed and questioned whether cops lied about the reason for the preceding traffic stop.
