In an era before television, newsreels at cinemas were a primary means of spreading news. Carlisle's students were featured in a reel by the Gaumont company, which filmed the school's Olympic athletes as well as a student singing in sign language! carlisleindian.dickinson.edu/documents/film…

According to CIIS founder Richard H. Pratt, after the 1893 World's Fair items from CIIS' exhibit were purchased by an English educator operating a Zulu school in South Africa. This apparently included a CIIS-made wagon. Does anyone know what school Pratt might be talking about?

Throughout the years, lecturers frequently visited CIIS. Their topics included telegraphy, experimental psychology, Japanese culture, American history, 'moral hygiene', Christianity, photography, and more. Lectures were often recounted in the school's newspapers and magazines.

In 1918, Carlisle's industrial equipment were going to be used in 'the reeducation of soldiers physically disabled in the war.' That, plus the fact that the campus 'can be speedily used for hospital purposes', were cited as reasons for its closure and transfer to the War Dept.

Central PA Conservancy has acquired a farm settled by James LeTort, who was involved in local Susquehannock trading in the 1700s. By the late 1800s, Susquehannocks were totally dispossessed of lands in the area, and then sent there to be educated at CIIS. cumberlink.com/news/local/cen…
