My office is in contact with the NYPD 107th Precinct regarding the shooting that took place in Fresh Meadows this afternoon. The precinct has the shooter in custody and the victim has been transported to the hospital for surgery.

Yesterday, Sikh heritage was on full display for the 36th Annual Sikh Day Parade! Thank you to the Sikh Cultural Society for hosting this amazing celebration and to all of the community members who came out for the festivities!

The beauty of our communities should be protected and one reason we are proud to call Eastern Queens home! I was happy to get my hands dirty and join the Creedmoor Civic for their cleanup along Braddock Avenue! Thank you Ann Terry for your work to organize this event each year!

Mark your calendars! My office has partnered with NYC DOT for a bike helmet giveaway at Bellerose Playground on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Helmets will be available for children and adults. All are welcome to attend!

Last night, we celebrated the New York City Council's second Vaisakhi event at City Hall! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate a night of food, unity, and festive cultural performances as we uplifted the immense contributions of New York's vibrant Sikh community!

Over the weekend, I joined WomenforAfghanWomen for their Eid celebration! For two decades, the organization has grown into a pillar of our Queens communities through its advocacy and advancement of the rights of Afghan women here in the US. It was a pleasure to celebrate with you!
