As a challenger, Mandela Barnes only underperformed incumbent Tammy Baldwin by 12% in a year about 11% redder. So perhaps Baldwin isn't super strong? Or maybe Ron Johnson is just that weak.

La Crosse has more than just a college town. So its margin really varies. Ron Kind was king here. Baldwin pretty strong too.

Ron Johnson's 2016 suburban margins aren't coming back. 2022 was redder than 2016 and yet, Johnson collapsed in the suburbs.

Johnson ran in a red year and couldn't replicate his WOW and BOW numbers. Why would Hovde be able to do so in a bluer year against an incumbent?
