Asian hornet Dover, Kent

On Thursday 22nd June a small primary nest of Asian hornets was reported to the NBU.

This is the earliest date in the season that a nest has ever been found in Great Britain.

It was made by the Minoans, who inhabited the island of Crete from around 3000 BC. They used the bee to symbolise power and prosperity, making it a frequent motif in their art and jewellery

Apimondia has raised awareness of new animal husbandry legislation coming into effect today. This sets maximum density levels for all livestock.

The total no. of per colony is now capped at 20,000. need to monitor hives throughout the season or face penalties!
