It’s often overlooked that MLK’s dream was divisive in his day.

Resistance is not a signal of failure. It’s often a clue that you’re ahead of your time. Visions for change elicit opposition from defenders of the status quo.

Rocking the boat is a precursor to progress.

We remember Dr. King and his commitment to racial and economic equality even -or especially- when they were unpopular. Today, and every day, we aspire to honor that commitment with our passion and grit as we fight for an equitable Texas.

Dear politicians/political influencers:

When you evoke my father this #MLKDay , remember that he was resolute about eradicating racism, poverty, and militarism. And about corrective justice work.

Don’t just quote him.

Encourage and enact policies that reflect his teachings.

Still applies this year…and next year…and likely the following year(s) as well.
