I have listened and our community and you have said show us change. PPB needs to be the leader in change. It starts with trust. This change in leadership comes from my heart.Chuck Lovell has been dedicated to service his entire life. I am 100% confident in him and his leadership.

Moments of hope.

East Precinct had a domestic violence suspect in custody who needed to be booked, but was unable to be brought to the Justice Center. These events are impacting other public safety capabilities.

This improvised explosive landed at the feet of some of our officers. Thankfully the fuse went out. Fireworks, lit flares, and projectiles thrown and launched via sling shot were targeted at police.

I am in close communication with Mayor Wheeler about the use of gas and some of the community’s concerns. We continue to evaluate the best resource options to achieve our number one priority for all events, which is life safety, along with the reduction of serious injury for all.

A Molotov cocktail was located near a building in downtown this afternoon. Life safety is our #1 priority. Help keep things safe for all and report dangerous items to 911.

We support peaceful demonstrations and want our city to unify and be an inclusive environment where people trust their law enforcement. We have done a lot of work, but we have more to do. We are listening and need your ideas and for you to be a part of public safety here.

2 a.m update: Activity downtown has subsided. Vehicles were marked as a method for identifying those engaged in criminal behavior and to increase public safety for all.

Situation update about actions right after 9 pm: Some peaceful demonstrators in Pioneer Square. Some violent and aggressive actions near Justice center. Police respond with riot control agents to disperse those engaged in criminal activity.
