We make burrows in the earth along the banks of rivers, streams, canals, ponds and lakes. We are small, very effective ecosystem engineers, who need tall, uncut vegetation in which to hide and feed until late October.

I've never understood the persecution of Moles! I first saw this happening in 1958, at my grandmother's house. My beloved Aunt's husband was incensed (they were all living together), because they were making molehills in his precious lawn. WHY can't he let them live, I wondered?

She arrived at on 26 August 1942 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy. She was among 908 people murdered in gas chambers after the selection.
