Hedgehogs have been part of folklore for 1000s of years. It was once believed they stole cow's milk, collected fruit on their spines - it was even thought their fave food was slugs/snails! Jeremy Vine Let's all get this deadly myth busted. Please read:

nicola white mudlark I love these fossils. Am always amazed how many turn up on the foreshore & where they’ve come from. Been told that most likely they’ve washed in from the Chilterns but many are also often found in Neolithic graves as a spiritual talisman.

One of the oldest objects you'll find on the Thames foreshore - a heart shaped fossilised sea urchin - a micraster. A perfect work of nature. Have a very happy Friday one & all ing

Since we’re still locked down there’s no Mudlarking, but I’ve been Beachcombing on a very cold and windy beach close to home instead. I wonder how long this plastic slide holder has been at sea?

A bit of magic, some lens flare, an orb (top left) and a sun halo. Nice bit of brightness for a grey and damp Saturday in January. The magic and beauty will appear when we look for it. 💜Glastonbury Tor. Might need a click.

Surely if you’re “deeply sorry” and, as Prime Minister, “take full responsibility” for over 100,000 deaths, the least you can do is resign.

Highlights of the Surrey Docks Farm coin hoard are this pre-farm 'New Penny' of 1971 - the first decimalised penny, and this French Euro 2 cents, dating from the period when the UK was part of the European Union, and that romantic faraway age of trans-European travel and tourism.

Coin hoard discovered at Surrey Docks Farm! Found by builders clearing an area near the farm shop. Initial analysis suggests their collective street (shop) value may reach £0.70 (plus 4 Euro cents). Many date from last century (the 1990s); a few predate the farm itself. Contd...

At first glance this Eiffel Tower Lemonade bottle makes no sense - being too small to hold more than a glass of liquid. But it was concentrate, in crystal form. It was made in Maidstone, Kent - there's no actual connection to the Eiffel Tower!

I was super pleased with this shot. It's not black-and-white, but black-and-red! I didn't do anything clever to remove colours in Photoshop, it's just a black swan on an overcast day exactly as I saw it.
