🚨 NEWS: A notorious problem landlord has been sentenced to 175 days in jail for continually defying court orders to maintain livable conditions at his 32 rental properties across Columbus. We’ll stop at nothing to hold problem landlords accountable.

Each week, our senior team gathers to report out on the work happening across the City Attorney’s Office. From protecting public safety to strengthening our neighborhoods, there’s so much to do and I couldn’t be prouder to work alongside this team.

It’s not enough to simply prosecute retail theft. We have to address the reasons people commit these offenses in the first place and offer low-level, non-violent offenders a better path. Our Buckeye Diversion program does just that and we’re seeing the results.

Every criminal case that comes across my desk is thoroughly reviewed before prosecutors take action. The Ohio State campus protest cases are no different. We’re currently reviewing the facts and evidence to determine how prosecutors will proceed with each individual case.

Thank you to Jessica E. Miranda and all the legislators and advocates who have been working for years to end the spousal rape loophole in Ohio. It’s long overdue and an important victory for survivors in our state.

Time and time again, my office has sent a clear message: acts of hate won’t be tolerated on our college campuses, in our places of worship, or anywhere in the city of Columbus. We’ll continue to prosecute hate crimes to the fullest extent possible under the law—no exceptions.

This is a good win that protects the right of Ohio's localities to regulate tobacco products with policies like ending flavored tobacco sales.

We thank Columbus and the 13 other Ohio cities for their efforts to protect kids and communities from tobacco.

Some good news in case you missed it 👉🏼 On Friday, a Franklin Co. judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the state’s ban on local tobacco regulations. We need to keep local strategies in place to curb tobacco use, especially among teens.

The “squatting” stories being pushed online and in some corners of the media don’t reflect the reality that Ohio already has laws that address this issue, and in nearly every case, the law is on the side of the property owner.

The Ohio Legislature recently blocked cities from taking action to reduce tobacco use, like ending flavored tobacco sales. Now, Columbus, Cleveland and other Ohio cities are suing to reverse this decision.

We fully support their fight to protect their communities from tobacco.
