Andy Boenau Transportation for America I wanted to do this report for almost 20 years before I got the chance. What was amazing was the cities that lost population, added some road capacity and still saw their traffic congestion get worse. When will we learn...

I wish media would stop running stories blaming pollution solely on the behavior of big corporations -- not those who use their products. It's misleading and lazy.

Example: The biggest source of microplastics in many rivers and oceans? Tires -- from cars, driven by people

Ohio cities all have a similar dynamic: downtowns gentrifying with relatively high incomes (but not highest regionally like some cities), suffering inner ring, suffering citywide, higher metro incomes (cin, cle, col):

It's almost three years since City Council adopted PBOT's Pricing Options for Equitable Mobility report, and I don't believe they've moved forward with any of the recommendations for the next 1-3 years. portland.gov/sites/default/…

I genuinely believe that if Senator Murphy spent all this energy on legalizing walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods with corner coffee shops across the United States, it would do more to solve this loneliness epidemic than whatever this is (and help our housing crisis, too).

What do you think the reigning champ is for most highway capacity per capita AND most vehicle miles travelled per capita ie the dot at the upper right?

I feel like I spend an inordinate part of my day patiently explaining to otherwise brilliant people why electric cars or eVTOLs are not the solution for transportation equity, for fixing our broken land use policies or even for basic fairness.

1/🧵 Let's talk about why correctly identifying the problem matters for successful policy development.

Like many cities, Toledo in the 1950s was suffering from pretty heavy out-migration and downtown businesses were feeling the pinch.

So what was the central problem? Well...

'Most of the increase in emissions came from the transportation sector, which increased by 7.4 percent, driven by a 10.6 percent increase in emissions from passenger vehicles sub-sector.'

And guess what! This is *inclusive of record electric car sales.*

.@oregondot's proposed $1.9 Billion Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion would at minimum increase greenhouse gas emissions by 20,000 tons a year, annually.

Climate leaders don't widen freeways.
Are you a climate leader, Tina Kotek?

Did you know TXDOT's I-35 expansion plan will increase number of vehicles on I-35 in Austin by 149%?

For Earth Day, tell CAMPO (the local board that allocates funding) to NOT fund I-35 expansion in their vote next month!!

Hi nhtsagov - perhaps you don’t know this, but you’re the agency responsible for motor vehicle standards (FMVSS)
You can:
• limit motor vehicle size + outlaw deadly styles
• require speed limiters, AEB, driver monitoring, event recording

You CAN do this for us. Why don’t you?
