In the Budget Debate this week, I made the case for the Household Support Fund - extended for six months - to be made permanent. The Minister said that would be a matter for 'the next fiscal event' - presumably referring to the Autumn Statement.

Today I reminded Govt of the impacts their failed policies have on our Newham communities - homelessness, taxes, inflation, degraded public services. The Budget delivers no real solutions - only the hope it could be the last act of 14 years of Tory failure, division and decline.

In her update to Full Council, Mayor @rokhsana spoke about the recent success of the Civic Awards in the borough and the work the Council has been doing around housing and on the climate, placing people at the heart of all they do.

In his update to Full Council Cllr Neil Wilson who spoke on the campaign for Newham to given status as being part of inner London.

In his update to Full Council, Deputy Mayor Cllr James Asser spoke on the start of weekly recycling which will build on the last four years which saw increased recycling rates from under 20% to 25%.

Our speaker tonight is Rob Whiteman who is CEO at @CIPFA. It was brilliant to have him come and give the Council an update on the current financial position of local government.
