It's Sikh Heritage Month. Since the first arrival of Sikh immigrants to Canada in the 19th century, the Canadian Sikh community has contributed greatly in helping shape our diverse cultural fabric. Values of equality, selflessness, and openness are the core principles of Sikhism.

Eid al-Fitr is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims & commemorates the end of the holy month of Ramadan, in which Muslims fast daily from before dawn until sunset. It is commemorated by a community-wide prayer service in the morning, followed by meals & conversation.

Two new local directories now being offered through Ontario 2-1-1 will provide residents with simple, quick ways to find services. They can be found at: peterborough.search211.ca (for community services) and poht.search211.ca (for health services).

Good Friday is the day in which Christian and Catholic churches commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Easter Sunday, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Please note, all offices of Community Care Peterborough will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2024 in observance of Good Friday. We will be open as usual on Easter Monday, April 1, 2024.

It's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. A day that recognizes the injustices & prejudices fueled by racial discrimination. It is on the anniversary of the massacre at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid in Shapeville, South Africa in 1960.

Ramadan Begins - March 10. Ramadan is celebrated in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar as Mohammed was visited by the Angel Jibril who revealed the first words of what would later be know as the Qur’an. A foundational pillar of practicing Islam is fasting during the month.

International Women's Day is March 8 - a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th as a focal point in the women's rights movement. IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
