Major paper day! 🥳 In this paper, we present the major work on collecting, reducing and processing *all* spectroscopic data observed with NASA Webb Telescope / ESA Webb Telescope and examine ~500 (!) galaxies within the first giga-year of cosmic time 🌌

More candy for our Danish followers who haven't got the time for reading Albert Sneppen's latest paper, 'Kilonova evolution -- the rapid emergence of spectral features'. Here's a 200 second summary by Bertil F. Dorch 息子の名前は灵です Мы любим мир 🌍🕊:

Many congratulations to DAWN astronomer Malte Brinch for defending his PhD thesis. Malte has discovered a number of z > 6 proto-cluster candidates in the COSMOS field and using Keck spectroscopically confirmed two massive clusters at z=6.

Are you finishing your master's (or similar) and would like to pursue a career in astronomy?

Do you like massive galaxies and want to study their early evolution?

Then apply here for a PhD scholarship to come to DAWN and work with Francesco Valentino:

DAWN - The Cosmic Dawn Center👉🧵Et af de seneste mysterier, rumteleskopet James Webb har givet os, er disse små, røde prikker, kendt blandt fantasifulde astronomer som 'Little, Red Dots'. Endnu ved vi ikke præcis, hvad det er, udover fjerne galakser.

What are 's newly discovered population of galaxies known as 'little red dots'?

Today, Meghana Killi shows that a multi-component model can explain their appearance: A dusty unresolved region (AGN?) + a less obscured resolved star-forming host.

240 years ago, John Michell gave the first description of a black hole.
For our Danish followers, you can celebrate this by listening to the latest IDA Space Talks episode, where DAWN's Peter Laursen talks about black holes.

Three missions are left in @ESA's race for the next medium-class space mission.

DAWN's Lise Christensen is involved in one of these, 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗦, which will explore stellar explosions in the early Universe.

Congratulations to Dr. Meghana Killi who has just successfully and outstandingly defended her thesis at DAWN.

Over the past years, Meghana has explored and made significant contributions to the physics of early galaxy evolution. Here she offers a recipe for making a galaxy.

Like ripe fruit on a cosmic vine, two quiescent galaxies hang on a large, extended structure in the early Universe.

This shows that such galaxies do not necessarily form in cluster cores and are quenched by the environments.

Paper out today by Shuowen Jin: arxiv.org/abs/2311.04867
