Most of you will have worked out that I no longer ordinarily tweet. But Monday's Forecasting Eye from Cebr is the first ever study of the full economic cost of potholes. As it involves both economics and cars I decided that my fingerprints would show so it's in my own name!

The latest updated regional analysis from Cebr shows that Scotland is the UK's weakest performing regional/national economy. Over the past 4 years (2019-23) we estimate the Scottish economy has declined by 0.4% measured by GVA. UK GVA has risen by 1.7% over same period.

My Cebr colleague Sam Miley has corrected the regional GDP data for the inaccurate way it treats working from home. This affects London in particular which drops from being the UK's 3rd fastest growing region to its 4th slowest growing region. cebr.com/reports/remote…

Fact: Sadiq Khan has contributed to the economic decline of London and deepened the Capital’s fiscal debt even further.

I showed through independent economic analysis that not only has Mayor Khan’s fixation with an ill-informed air quality improvement scheme needlessly fleeced

Totally agree with Ruth Sunderland . If there can be an investigation into the equivalent for vets surely distressed people are more important?

At Cebr we were surprised that London appeared to be the third fastest growing region in the UK since 2019 because London house prices and those of commercial property had fallen relatively. So we checked the data. The results are released in our Monday Forecasting Eye.

Eamonn describes the key points. What is shocking is not what it says (my science isn't good enough to cross check it, though I'm not convinced anyone else's is either) but the fact that it is shadow banned for challenging the consensus.

Government overspend will seriously effect the UK's ability to grow the economy.

As part of our Growth Spring Budget to reverse some of this overspend we proposed:

🟢Freezing budgets in cash terms for three years to start to reverse the trend of falling productivity.

It should be good news that Rachel Reeves is planning an enhanced growth unit to analyse policy. But the proof of the pudding will be in the eating - if the unit points out that enhanced workers rights will damage growth, will the party still go ahead with them?
