Many of us look at the history of the Moorish conquest in Spain as a source of pride. What we really need to study about this history is what the Spanish did to free themselves from centuries of foreign rule.

Eric Williams noted that “British historians wrote almost as if Britain had introduced Negro slavery solely for the satisfaction of abolishing it.” This narrative still persists, even though we know that Britain never actually abolished slavery.

Historically speaking xenophobic movements are usually counterproductive and self-defeating. There's a reason why Pan-African efforts in the Caribbean, Africa, and the United States have accomplished more than movements rooted in dividing us further.
