Route to sprint worked nicely for Hateful ($17), who relaxed better in the early stages of this shorter event before graduating in the sixth Maryland Jockey Club under Denis Araujo. Maryland Thoroughbred stalked outside, made a four-wide bid, then wore down the leader.
