2) The live-ball turnover issue has to stop quickly, before one of these Q4 opponents gets hot at the wrong time. At one point with 9:19 to go, had 11 turnovers & every single one of them was a Bryant steal. Some is post entry, others are panicking to find a dribbler.

1) In games like these, you find out which of your players want to DO STUFF on the court & make plays happen. Today, it was Aundre Hyatt in the 1st half & Derek Simpson in the 2nd. Hyatt took open 3s & fought on boards. Derek got in transition & hit FTs. Needed every one of them.

The Sunday rails of NJ Transit, as we depart Edison for the Big Apple.

escapes a scrappy Bryant team, which was well coached by Phil Martelli Jr. today.

5 thoughts as the Scarlet Knights put on a vintage November grind to get an ugly second win.

Pikiell: “I thought our defense the whole time was really good. The guys did a good job of identifying the guys that can really shoot the basketball. We did what we had to do on that end of the floor.”

Pikiell: “Cliff’s mentality, he was in the huddle, vocal, that’s a good sign for us moving forward.”

Pikiell: “I love the fact that we were able to outrebound them…19 offensive rebounds, after the Princeton game, we made a concerted effort to be a better rebounding team and that showed tonight. We got tested today and that’s a good thing for us. Tough win.”

Final stats for Rutgers Men’s Basketball 🏀 and Bryant Men's Basketball: A 51-34 rebounding margin, including 13 and 15 at the buzzer for Cliff, who was a plus-19, overcomes 31 percent shooting and a second-half upset bid.

Rutgers has survived, 66-57 the final over Bryant. The 8-0 run to restore order after Pinzon and Withers’ back-to-back threes ended up giving the hosts the lead for good, and sustaining momentum after the flagrant-1 locked this one down.

Georgetown next on Wednesday.

Pikiell will talk before Rutgers resets with 24 on the shot clock and 2:42 to play in regulation.

Cliff has a double-double despite four fouls, and both teams are shooting the rest of the way (double bonus for Rutgers).

Scarlet Knights 57, Bryant 53.

Flagrant-1 on Tyler Brelsford. Rutgers gets two shots and possession, which could help break the game open if all goes well.

Derek Simpson went down hard on a drive and the officials are going to presumably review whether or not it constitutes a flagrant, which Pikiell seemed adamant about it being.

Money time in Piscataway, with Rutgers up 53-49 heading to the final 4:16.

Rutgers got eight straight after Bryant took the lead, and then a putback dunk by Cliff after a Pinzon three ended the spurt. It’s still a two-point game at the U8, and the Bulldogs have possession on the other side.

It’s the Scarlet Knights up 51-49 at the 6:51 mark.

Fine with the roster turnover, but it should come as no surprise that the two guys we all could see had talent, Pinzón and Storr, have looked good for their new teams. It’s truly unbelievable how Mike Anderson just quit being a basketball coach.

We might have a situation here.

Bryant is up three at the U12 after Connor Withers hit a go-ahead triple a minute or so ago. He’s got 11, Pinzón, who continues to show he was miscast and misused by Mike Anderson, has 14.

Bulldogs 44, Rutgers 41 with 11:09 remaining.

Steve Pikiell has called two timeouts, both of which have been triggered immediately after Rafael Pinzon beat the Scarlet Knights at the other end. This time, it was on a three that would have been good from Metuchen. Tie game as a result…41-all with 13:16 on the clock.

Rutgers isn’t out of the woods yet, as Bryant is still within five at the U16, but the Scarlet Knights look more engaged now than they have at any point in the first half. Getting Cliff involved changed a lot.

With 15:33 left, Rutgers 39, Bryant 34.

Rutgers has exploded out of the blocks with a 7-3 run to shaft the second half, and Bryant needs a timeout.

Cliff was responsible for the first four points, on a one-handed tomahawk and floater in traffic, before a Hyatt threw in the right corner.

Rutgers 36, Bryant 28.

Rutgers will go to the locker room up four. It could have been better if the Scarlet Knights weren’t 5-of-11 at the line, but it could also have been much worse considering Bryant looked like the better team for 15 of the first 20 minutes.

Halfway home: Rutgers 29, Bryant 25.
