Remaining open to the prospect of something being trauma related is just as important as not assuming everything is trauma related.

That's a trauma informed approach.

Trauma informed approaches can underpin school behaviour approaches.

At it's most basic it's just knowledge of trauma, a degree of curiosity towards the actions of children and a willingness to use that information to decide what's in the best interests of everyone.

Anyone who doubts the communicative value of behaviour, what do you do when...?

- a child becomes withdrawn?
- your partner becomes increasingly restless?
- a friend seems constantly distracted?

Does this behaviour not communicate something to you?

Herein lies the difference in approaches.

Many schools are great at responding to behavioural information, changing approaches and reviewing.

Some take the approach that the sanction hasn't been applied long enough, or severe enough, to change the behaviour.

‘They Just Don’t Care’

I’m seeing lots of posts bemoaning that the Year 11s just don’t seem to care about their upcoming GCSEs. They aren’t motivated or worried about their speaking exams starting in two weeks time and nothing seems to make a difference.

Any headteacher from the last 14 years could win this contract with their expert experience of making budgets fit ever decreasing resourcing.

They've lived it.

Government is always claiming to be 'turning a corner' on the economy, recession or growth.

We've been making so many right turns we are just going in circles.

It's much easier to pretend people who don't agree with *ONE* school's rules, don't like *ANY* school rules.

There are some laws I don't agree with.

I don't believe in having no laws though.

See how easy that is?

The important question for me is 'with more funding what would you do differently (instead of isolation)?'

And if there is something you feel would work better, it's a tacit admission resourcing decides responses to behaviour rather than best practice.

And needs are unmet.
