Amazing thread here on how advanced Redwood Materials battery recycling is.

They are already recycling EV battery materials using less than a quarter of the energy needed for refining. (Not to mention mining).

Earth Day messaging is still stuck at the 'recycle harder' level, when what we need is the 'sue & disrupt the fossil fuel industry out of existence and put the executives who've spread lies in prison, as billions of lives and life on Earth is at risk' level

Tesla co-founder JB Straubel has built an EV-battery colossus in the scrublands of Nevada. He spent the day giving me the first look at everything @redwoodmat has been building.

It starts with *30 acres* of old batteries headed headed for recycling 🧵

New real-world data released by European Commission shows plug-in hybrids produce 3.5 times more emissions per km than carmakers suggest.

A wakeup call to remove incentives for hybrids & should trigger class actions against companies who’ve mislead consumers

Failure to act on global warming is a failure of political leadership. This wilful failure translates into unwillingness to communicate and educate people about what is happening. We are seeing the consequences in the great southern of Western Australia. abc.net.au/news/2024-04-1…

Forcing people to take on huge debts just to get a uni education that is increasingly necessary to get a lot of jobs is deeply unfair. Adding indexation is the extra kick in the teeth. The only fair thing to do? Tax big corps, make uni/tafe free and wipe outstanding student debt.

Well, this sounds suboptimal

New study finds climate change likely to do $38 trillion in economic damage a year by 2050.

(Total current world gdp is $101 trillion)

I still see lazy claims we need to raise the Australian unemployment rate to 4.5%+. That means pushing 100,000+ more people (& families) needlessly towards or into poverty.

We ought to have a better way to manage inflation.

The ALP should introduce a federal job guarantee now.

So great our government is getting right up close to see the source of the global mass coral bleaching reported on yesterday. Not mucking around.

Today on Volts: China! I sit down with longtime China expert Lauri Myllyvirta to discuss the country's decarbonization efforts, its recent coal binge, & the growing political influence of the cleantech sector. This one is incredibly illuminating!
