This disturbing website has revealed just how Biden won the 2020 election. As a Biden supporter...I'm shocked. This is big, if true.

US politics would improve if more lefties came up through unions rather than dorm rooms. Unions teach the unromantic nitty gritty view of politics, all about power & tangible gains. Dorm room leftism rewards romanticism & rhetorical grandiosity untethered to material reality.

One of the differences between the left & the right is what constitutes truth: is there some objective truth, or is the question purely about who has higher status in any disagreement?

Many people conflate status with being right.

I had this exchange with Elon here on Twitter over a year ago and we are still having the same conversation so I guess…let’s do this.

Fortune 500 companies aren’t overly moral actors. They make decisions based on whether they think they will make more or less money.…

There’s a lot unsaid in this announcement of Sam Altman’s departure from OpenAI, but what is said is unusually scathing for corporate speak:

Celebrating war & widespread death is evil & weak.

We should all strive to build a world where the fundamental rights of every person are respected & protected, and where we work together to win a lasting peace defended with strength and grounded in justice.

The idea that Ds should have bailed out McCarthy is a codicil of the larger logic of DC punditry in which R bad behavior/destruction is assumed, a baseline like weather, and Ds managing the consequences of that behavior is a given. It’s part of DC being hardwired for the GOP.

The most straightforward way to improve working conditions & wages is this:

Ensure that the gains from automation accrue to workers.

Automation is a good thing. If every ounce of human labor produces more, we can all be more prosperous: we can all have more with less work.

Yes. This.

There are huge gains to be had in commercial buildings, but incentive structures have to take into account that the building owners aren’t the people who pay the utilities. (Tenants do.) That disconnect makes many things harder.

I also made my vlogbrothers video about this this week where I go into more detail. You can see it here:

And the biggest perspective shift for me here is...we shouldn't be asking whether we should be doing geoengineering...we already are, we have been for a century. We should be asking...should take a huge step and do it intentionally and thoughtfully...because WE CAN SEE IT WORKS.

'Democracy cannot work if citizens are demoralized and demobilized by such despair.'

Interesting EJ Dionne column arguing that believing a better future is possible isn't mere naive optimism. It actually imposes additional obligations on us to work harder to bring it about.

I don’t understand why Elon Musk didn’t make it so that when users hit their daily limit on @Twitter, the rest of their feed is 100% ads.

Maximize revenue!
