#HistFicMay 12.
I've created a setting for my Wynn Vale tales, a fictional county between Devon and Dorset. I wanted somewhere that felt familiar, but where I can put locations where I need them to be π
#HistFicMay - day 12 - The Son in Shadow is set in England (London, Yorkshire, and other locations) during the years 1568-1571. The 'other' locations are all places where Mary Queen of Scots was held captive, and she moved around a LOT.
#HistFicMay Day 12 What is your setting and why did you choose it? The novels are set in the early modern period generally because I am writing this series as an introductory course to early modern history wrapped up as a set of historical fiction novels.
I chose Louis XIVβsβ¦
#HistFicMay Day 12: What's your setting and why did you choose it?
Itβs based (mostly) on the UK β and I can only write about places I know, and because place/landscape is such an integral part of the story, my best writing is about places I love.
My setting: New York City from 1870-1875. To reflect Irish emigration after darkest years of the Famine and my own family's immigration. Early years of Gilded Age with post-Civil War wealth so MC begins as a maid.

βYou have killed someone.β
Day 12βWhat setting and why chosen?
The setting for almost all my #HistoricalFiction is the #17thCentury .
Why? It is the period I love. One of the most turbulent in European history, offering so much to write about.
#HistficMay Day 11: last words I've written. I'm still near the beginning of my WIP so:
'Montreal, it seemed to him, was as good a starting point as any.'
Today #HistFicMay itβs setting. My hero Ovid spends his exile years in Tomis on the Black Sea. Despite his constant complaints about the place and weather, nowadays it is Constanta, a holiday city with hotels lining the beaches. They still have a statue of him though!
I have loved today's #HistFicMay posts - thank you so much for sharing your fabulous words, Writers!
The last line I wrote was actually a song, so imagine this to music...

Isobel's late husband had bought her jewels and fur. What could I offer her in comparison? ππ¦π«€

Day 11 #HistFicMay : What is the last sentence you wrote?
Slightly cheating, because it's a few short sentences:
A wolf, huge, red-jawed, leapt. Its fangs closed on his neck. He struck it as it tore his throat out. It fell. It shrank. Not a wolf; a dog.
And today for #HistFicMay , here is the last sentence I wrote:
βTell me a story that explains everything and supposes Cothelas was innocent.β
#HistFicMay - day 11 - I'm working through edits on The Son in Shadow, and this is where I've landed today:
I remained on the bench until dawn pinked the sky, wondering how I had turned something so promising into ash.
Obviously I'm not being nice to Will. At all.
