On International Day of the midwife, i want to acknowledge some amazing midwives really trying hard to make lasting postive change. It’s a wonderful career and one I would still choose 18 years later. Thank you to everyone who has guided and supported me along the way ❤️

Met many genuine folk on my patient safety journey & I too consider some as dear friends.I have also sadly encountered negativity, ego's & a lack of respect for those that walk this path because they have to, not through choice. An emotional path to navigate.

Over 50s, tell me what you're wearing. I ask because I am convinced no shop or fashion editor understands what we actually wear. (I have on black ankle boots, asos jeans, Celia birtwell for top shop top, 1940s vintage jumper and massimo dutti leather jacket, all second hand.)

Sometimes you're walking innocently along and then you round a corner and stumble into a teeny world of perfection. Silent, except for the birds, your footsteps and the faintest trickle of a stream, your eyes fill with the softest greens, and your path is lit by tiny white stars.

Move away from our woodland edges & there are less bluebells, & an impenetrable wall of undergrowth home to dragons, dwarves, elves, fairies, giants, gnomes, satyrs, goblins, orcs, trolls, dark elves, leprechauns, halflings, centaurs, half-elves, & unicorns

One of the most beautiful things about low sunshine on Spring mornings is the way the light picks out every brand new leaf on each tree, as if celebrating their shiny return. The trees shimmered proudly on this little #peakdistrict lane, as if showing off their new clothes.

Why can't we say 'I don't know' more in healthcare conversations? Saying 'I don't know' has the effect of bringing more of the person into the conversation from behind the 'professional', it opens up space, & frees us up to explore.

This is a v good summary of how Martha’s Rule should work for hospital patients who think they’re in trouble & not being listened to…

M - what’s the Matter?

R - receive a Response
T - I Think I’m getting worse
H - I’m not being Heard
A - Act, call this number

Sending peace to those adapting to the loss of life as they knew it. There are chapters, moments even, where we understand we must let go of what is not returning and find a new way. I am not saying this is easy, but I am saying, it is worth it for you to see what's next.
