We need laws requiring shelters to advertise their dogs on the internet. Some of the lowest save rates in the country are in 'shelters' that don't advertise their dogs anywhere.

Sarasota, FL, City Commissioners voted unanimously to require local animal shelters to maintain a minimum 90% placement rate. The ordinance must still be approved at a second reading before it becomes law.

Shelters, volunteers have a protected First Amendment right to speak out about inhumane conduct at shelters, and policies to silence volunteers are illegal.

Terrified by fireworks, more dogs go missing on July 4th than any other day. Many of those dogs will end up in already overcrowded shelters.

Killing a healthy or treatable dog (cat, rabbit, or other animal companion) should be illegal, regardless of whether the animal is at a shelter or taken to a veterinarian.

We need protection for shelter volunteers and rescue groups, creating an incentive to help end cruelty or neglect at shelters without fear of retaliation and loss of rescue access.

There is no mandated federal reporting of animal shelter performance. It is left to states and municipalities to decide if and how they want to track this data. Very few states require state-level reporting and those that do often collect different data.
