When the set text list was introduced I thought it was a terrible idea, and years and years of teaching the courses didn't change my mind one bit.

English N5 & Higher are really poor courses anyway, and the set text stuff makes them even worse.

Much though I hate agreeing with Daily Mail Online, I unfortunately think Tom Bennett OBE is right. Scotland’s lack of consistency in education is all too apparent, prone more to the eccentricities of LAs rather than any rational approach. Time to change.

Of all the TV programmes I have ever watched, there is no doubt that 'Boys from the Blackstuff' was the most powerful. It asked radical questions that we duck and dodge today. Sad to hear of Bernard Hill's passing. There are some people and programmes you never forget.

A The Guardian editorial about the teaching of English. In its content, it’s not just relevant to south of the border. Unfortunately!

Long overdue - and not just in this regard. The lack of consistency in the way Scottish councils manage their educational system is deeply concerning and must be changed. Time the issue was highlighted.

Some issues matter more than partisan politics. I disagree sincerely with Kate Forbes on a whole number of issues but as Scots we should aspire to a political discourse that is marked by civility and tolerance…and that involves tolerance towards sincerely held religious beliefs.
