Dorset National Landscape is what used to be called Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). They have money to fund landscape projects in their area (mainly in north and west Dorset).

One great way to recognise Lesser Whitethroat is the closed wings, which are 'earth brown'. Whitethroat has bright rufous wings. Also, Lesser usually looks dark grey behind the eye (the ear coverts) although that doesn't show well here. Lovely pic Alan Crockard , thanks for sharing.

A nice set of Skylark photos here from Graham Jaggard, worth studying. They can be surprisingly difficult to identify on the ground. Bigger, chunkier than a pipit, white eye stripe shorter than Woodlark, also wings and tail longer. Crest not obvious unless raised.

I have always wanted to see this bird, now I finally got the chance to, after two attempts the Western Subalpine Warbler gave great views in the blackthorn at Portland this afternoon.

The Forster's Tern showed well on Brownsea Island lagoon from 10:30am today, plus an Arctic Tern, Spoonbill (fly-over) and 3 Greenshanks. A Shag by the quay and a Red Squirrel were a bonus. Also a Dartford Warbler at Ham Common to kick the day off.

It's been a 'flying' start for Little Gulls at Lytchett this year, this is at least our 6th record so far. We had none in 2022 and 3 last year(which we thought was a good year!!) Shaun Robson

Another bird to look out for around Dorset wetlands at the moment although Wood Sandpipers are far more prevalent in Autumn
